In 2020, the master classes and concerts of isa – the International Summer Academy of the mdw – University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna took place in various digital formats. isa20 presented itself as never before to offer an onscreen digital arena of experimentation – isaDigital – instead in its accustomed form as it’s taken place in the Semmering-Rax Region in Lower Austria for the past 29 years due to Covid 19.
isa’s digital palette ranged from online lectures, webinars, concerts, and documentaries to a competition for the most creative online musical performance, body work, and informal networking meetings. “Heroes?”—isa’s 2020 theme—was illuminated from various perspectives with special attention paid to Beethoven’s oeuvre.
